The most valuable skills that remote workers MUST have or learn are Communication, communication and communication.
On my wall, I drafted a little sign that I refer to and remind my team of:
1. Communicate often.
2. Communicate clearly and directly.
We all know time is lost in directionless meetings. However, time is also lost when a team member is not fully aligned with the company’s vision, mission, and short-term goals.
My team is spread across seven time zones and nearly as many languages. It is essential to me that we communicate often. If any one of us has even the whiff of a query, it needs asking proliferously until that person gets an answer they understand in any language they speak, and then some.
